As one reads through the bible, we will find that God has always had to deal with mankind’s pride. And as we will see in some scriptures, pride and a proud look are things that truly annoy God. As it was then so it is now. I can’t believe the pride and arrogance I see on a daily basis. Not only does non belief and uninteresting attitudes (in God’s word) abound , but now people have become bold ,disrespectful and down right dirty and nasty.

The pride of man horrifies me. If it were not for the knowledge of God’s mercy, along with guiding of the Holy Spirit , it would be quite difficult to deal with such an environment.

We are most fortunate that God is who he is , because if any of us had his power combined with our human nature , this baby (our world) would have been shut down long time ago.

This is why we all should be most grateful to God for his consistent graciousness.

He will allow things to continue on until everything he wanted to be fulfilled has run it’s course , and then………

Rev.11:15 - And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying

The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

Let us journey through the scriptures for pride and the proud…….

Psalms 12:3 - The Lord shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things

Psalms 40:4 - Blessed is that man that maketh the Lord his trust, and respected not the proud , nor such as turn aside to lies.

Psalms 101:5 - Whoso privily slandereth his neighbour , him will I cut off: him that hath an high look and a proud heart will not I suffer

Seven things God hates…….. Proverbs 6:16 -

A proud look ,

A lying tongue,

And hands that shed innocent blood,

An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations ,

Feet that be swift in running to mischief,

A false witness that speaketh lies,

And he that soweth discord among bretheren.

 

These six things doth the lord hate: yea , seven are an abomination unto him:

Proverbs 11:2 - When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.

Proverbs 13:10 -

Proverbs 16:18 - Pride

goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.Only by pride cometh contention: (strife and conflict) but with the well advised is wisdom.

Proverbs 21:4 -

Proverbs 28:25 - He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the Lord shall be made fat

Proverbs 29: 23 - A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.

An high look , and a proud heart , and the plowing of the wicked, is sin.

1 Timothy 3:5 - 6 - For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God? Not a novice , lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

 

 

covetous , boasters , proud , blasphemers , disobedient to parents , unthankful , unholy. Without natural affection , trucebreakers, false accusers , incontinent , fierce , despisers of those that are good , traitors , heady , highminded , lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God. Having a form of godliness , but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

For this sort are they which creep into houses , and lead captive silly women laden with sins , led away with divers lusts , ever learning , and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

James 4:6 - But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith , God resisteth the proud , but giveth grace unto the humble.

1 John 2:15 -17 - Love not the world , neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world , the love of the father is not in him. For all that is in the world , the lust of the flesh , and the lust of the eyes , and the pride of life , is not of the Father , but is of the world. And the world passeth away , and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

 

1 Peter 5:5 -Likewise , ye younger , submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea , all of you be subject one to another , and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud , and giveth grace to the humble.

 

The word haughty or haughtiness , can been found throughout scripture.

Haughty - disdainfully proud , snobbish , arrogant (Webster’s dictionary)

Disdain - to scorn , to look upon and treat with contempt (the state of being despised). ( Webster’s dictionary)

Isaiah 2:11,17 - the lofty looks of man shall be humbled , and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down , and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day (The day of the Lord)

 

Isaiah 13:11 - And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity ; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease , and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.

Isaiah 16:6 - we have heard of the pride of Moab; he is very proud: even of his haughtiness , and his pride , and his wrath: but his lies shall not be so.

2 Samuel 22:28 - And the afflicted people thou wilt save: but thine eyes are upon the haughty, that thou mayest bring them down.

Psalm 131 : 1 - Lord my heart is not haughty , nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters , or in things to high for me.

 

Proverbs 18:12 - Before destruction the heart of man is haughty , and before honour is humility.Proverbs 21:24 - Proud and haughty scorner is his name , who dealeth in proud wrath.

The next time you are out and about or perhaps watching television , or even on your job , and you happen to see a woman strutting herself around like she is something special just read what God has to say about such behavior………it’s quite chilling.

Isaiah 3:16 -24 Moreover the Lord saith, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty , and walk with stretched forth necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, making a tinkling with their feet:

Therefore the Lord will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and the Lord will discover their secret parts.

In that day (The day of the Lord) the Lord will take away the bravery

Of their tinkling ornaments about their feet, and their cauls, and their round tires like the moon.

The chains , and the bracelets , and the mufflers , The bonnets , and the ornaments of the legs , and the headbands , and the tablets , and the earrings , the rings , and the nose jewels , the changeable suits of apparel , and the mantles , and the wimples, and the crisping 

pins, The glasses , and the fine linen, and the hoods , and the vails.

And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweet smell there shall be stink; and instead of a girdle a rent (rope) , and instead of well set hair baldness: and instead of a stomacher a girding of sackcloth; and burning ( a brand or a scar) instead of beauty.

 

Isaiah 10:33 - Behold the Lord of hosts shall lop the bough with terror: and the high one of stature shall be hewn down, and the haughty shall be humbled.

 

Isaiah 24:4 - The earth mourned and fadeth away , the world languisheth and fadeth away, the haughty , people of the earth do languish.

 

Ezekiel 16:50 - And they were haughty , and committed abomination before me : therefore I took them away as I saw good.

 

Zephaniah 3:11 - In that day shalt thou not be ashamed for all thy doings, wherein thou hast transgressed against me: for then I will take away out of the midst of thee them that rejoice in thy pride ,and thou shalt no more be haughty , because of my mountain.
