And God said let us make man in our image - One might ask, “who is God talking to” ? Well actually he’s talking to himself, however there are three parts to God, just as there are three parts to you. We humans are made up of body, soul, and spirit. The Godhead consists of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (
Gen. 3:22 -
I heard Pastor Sheryl Brady say once….” you better talk to yourself, because if not the devil sure will talk to you”.
Here is more proof , John 1:1 - in the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God. Now skip down to , John 1:14 - and the word was made flesh and dwelt among us…….this is talking about Jesus!
Many people don’t realize the major role Jesus played during creation. Let’s look at John 1:1-3 - In the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him and without him was not anything made that was made.He was in the world and the world was made by him and the world knew him not. How can anyone argue about Jesus’ deity after reading this. If you do argue it you’re simply calling God a liar.
John 1:10 -
Let’s look at Heb. 1:1-2 - God who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds.Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Who is the image of the invisible God the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created , that are in heaven and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones or dominions, or principalities or powers: all things were made by him and for him. And he is before all things and by him all things consist. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead: that in all things he might have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in him should all fullness dwell;
Rev. 1: 8-18 -
Isa. 44:6 -
Thus saith the Lord the King of Israel, and his redeemer the Lord of hosts; I am the first , and am the last; and beside me there is no God.
Isa. 9:6 -
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given : and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
In John 17 : 5 - Jesus says to his father - And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
In John 8: 56-58 - Jesus having a argument with the Jews concerning Abraham. Jesus tells them …. Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it and was glad.Then the Jews said unto him thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? Then Jesus answered them saying… “ Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. They wanted to stone Jesus after he said this.
In both the old and new testaments we find scriptures concerning our Savior
New testament…
Acts 13:23 -
Of this man’s seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus
2 Tim. 1:10 -
But now is made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:
Titus 1:4 -
To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.
Titus 2:13 -
“(We are to live) looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Christ Jesus.
Titus 3:4 -
But after that the kindness and love of *God our Saviour toward man appeared,
In Titus 3:6 …..Which he shed on us abundantly through *Jesus Christ our Savior.Titus, one says God is the Saviour and two verses down it says Jesus is the Saviour. If you look at Isa. 43:10-11 (listed below) , God states that besides himself there is no Saviour. So the question is …..would the real Saviour please stand up? ………and both Jesus and God stand up. Review John 1:1-14, Gen. 1:1
Old testament….
Hosea 13:4 -
Yet I am the Lord thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but me: for there is no Saviour beside me.
In Isa. 43:3 - For I am the Lord thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Sheba for thee .
Isa. 43:10-11 -
Ye are my witnesses saith the Lord and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. I even I , am the Lord; and beside me there is no Saviour.
Isa. 45:15 - Verily thou art a God that hidest thyself, O God of Israel, the Saviour.
Isa. 45:21-22 -
Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together; who hath declared this from ancient time? Who hath told it from that time? Have not I the Lord? and there is no God else beside me: a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me. Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.
Now we all have the images in our mind of what Jesus looks like. I have seen many drawings, paintings, portraits, Hollywood actors, etc. of Jesus. Being from the middle east he most likely looked like most Jewish men of that day in that area. However the apostle Paul, while on the island called Patmos, had an encounter with Jesus unlike any depiction of our Lord, I have seen on the silver screen. What John encountered is listed below……
Rev. 1:9-19 -
I John who also am your brother and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ. I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, saying…. I am the Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and what thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.
And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks; And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the son of man clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.
His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire: And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp two edged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength. And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am he that liveth, and was dead; and behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter;
Wow! I believe if I were to encounter the good Lord , as did John in the above passage , my reaction would be just as John’s was, he states……. “ I fell at his feet as dead ”.
In the book of Daniel, Dan. 10:5-6, Daniel encounters this same being. His description is the same as John’s. Also please take note that the book of Daniel was written about 606 or 616 to 536 B.C. Just another example of Jesus being with the father from the beginning.
Jesus’ redemption work……..
When a person comes to the realization of what Jesus did for all mankind, there should not be a day that goes by where you don’t have him on your mind. If you go through a full twenty four hour day, and never think about Jesus, I would have to say your priorities are out of order.
When Adam and Eve had their falling out with God, in the Garden……..we all had a fall out! It reminds us of just how serious sin is. It cost Adam and Eve their residing in the garden where there was once peace and harmony , and most of all it fractured their relationship with God. Prior to the fall of man, Divinity and humanity were in harmony with one another. Gen 3:8 -9 Adam and Eve hear the voice of the Lord walking through the garden, in the cool of the day, looking for Adam. “Adam where art thou”? However Adam and his wife were hiding from God, when ordinarily they would stay and chat with the good Lord. I must ask you a question, are you hiding from God?
The following is from the ’Dakes Bible pg. 1029. , concerning Man’s Dominion (Psalm:8) ……….
This passage (Ps.8) places man at the head of all God’s work, including the sun, moon and stars (v 3); and the earth, including all living things (v 7-8). Thus Adam was originally made higher than the angels, but by sin he was brought very low and made subject to death. Now, man in his lessened estate ( short of God’s glory, Rom. 3:23) is below angels. Christ himself was made lower for a time to take man’s low place and to raise him again higher than angels, as he originally was. Christ has been exalted to a place higher than angels or any other being except the Father. (Eph. 1:21-23 ; Phil. 2:9-11 ; Pet. 3:22). Redeemed man is to be raised up to that exalted position with him (Rom. 8:17-18 ; Eph. 2:6-7 ; 3:8-11 ; 2 Tim. 2:12 ; Heb. 2:5-11 : Rev. 1:6 ; 5:10 ; 22:4-6).
The above text shows us just what man lost in the garden. However, Jesus not only bailed us out, but he also, through his death, has placed us in a position to be joint heirs with Christ!!!!! (Rom. 8:17-18) I must repeat that , joint heirs with Christ!!!! , one more time, just so you get it, joint heirs with Christ!!! This should make you want to get up and say Thank You Lord! I think Paul put it best in v. 18.……. For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. Absolutely wonderful! I really believe all this is just so beyond our comprehension, for if we really did truly get it we would be totally sold out to God. I really feel that when we step into eternity, within our first few seconds, we will say “ Oh my dear Lord I should have done more, why didn’t I do more?!”
The following words are from ‘Bishop T.D. Jakes’ from his CD entitled “ The Ride Of A Lifetime” This is what he had to say about Jesus Christ……
Jesus was more than a historical figure. He was more than just a young Jewish man executed under the Roman torture system called the cross.
* He is The Lamb of God
* The Mighty God, his name is Wonderful, Counselor, Prince of Peace
* My kinsman redeemer
* My daystar
* My bulwark and trumpet
* My Ancient of days
* My feast of weeks, and feast of unleavened bread
* My brazen alter, my mercy seat
* The scapegoat I needed to carry my past away
* The cornerstone of my salvation
* The rock of ages
*The water coming out of the rock
*Bridge over troubled water
*My prophet, my priest, my king
* My counselor, my friend, my confidant
* He is the one that brought me through my test, trials & tribulations. If you’ve ever known him, you can never forget him. He is in a class all by himself. He said I am God and beside me there is no other.
As I said at the start of this me article, it’s impossible to squeeze everything there is to know about Jesus, within a few short pages. This I why I encourage you to get to know the Lord for yourself. Then you will be able to see and experience his love and greatness.
It’s the most important decision of your life, not where you decided to go to college, or who to marry, but getting to know Jesus Christ. Unfortunately most people just don’t take life as serious as they should. We have more interest in how we are doing financially than spiritually. We are more concerned about this world ( which by the way is absolutely whacked out of it ), than we are eternity. If we all could get a glimpse of it then our thinking would change. However the only glimpse, of eternity we get is from God’s word. This we must believe is true. God says that he is not a man that he would lie, and we should believe him. This written record he has given us, you have to either believe all of it’s contents or none of it. There is no in between when it comes to the bible. It’s either truth or lies.
It’s quite remarkable to see how a king left his home in glory, to come down here and suffer for us, just so we can have the relationship restored to how it was in the garden. Jesus did some remarkable things. He even washed his disciple’s feet. (John 13)
Hey have you ever gone over to wash your neighbors feet? J When I was growing up I remember we had feet washing at church, and we thought nothing of it. Can you one imagine, now in the 21st century, a preacher telling his congregation that he wants to have a feet washing ceremony! They would probably stone him to death.
What message was Jesus trying to convey? Well let’s let Jesus tell us….
John 13:12-17 -
Thanks for visiting.
Jesus asked his disciples, Know ye what I have done unto you? Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well: for I am so. If then your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.
