The Poor
There is more than enough food produced in the world to feed everyone on the planet. Yet as many as 783 million still go hungry. Ref. actionagainsthunger.org

Most of us who are reading these words , if we were to get the urge to put something into our belly, would be able to do so.

However I think many of us loose sight of just how many people go hungry on a daily basis , and not just in poor countries, around the world, but right here in these United States.

In 2021 the federal government defined poverty as being a family of four with an annual income of $26,500 or less. According to stats taken in 2020 about 11.4% lives in poverty. Compared to historical numbers the current poverty rate is low. In 1959 22.4% of US households fell below the poverty line. Interestingly the 1960s had the biggest decrease in poverty dropping to 12.1% by 1969. Refs. usafacts.org

How many are food insecure? Food insecurity is the limited or unknown availability of nutritional safe foods to meet the basic needs of everyone in the household.
In 2020 35% of households with incomes below the federal poverty lines , were food insecure.

How many people are homeless in the US?
As of January 2020 , 580,466 people - 18 out of every 100,000 people were homeless. usafacts.org

- no interest is to be charged them Ex. 22:25
- no special favors to be shown in law suits Ex.23:3
- offerings made according to prosperity Ex.30:15 ; Lev.14:21
- gleanings of the harvest each year to be for the poor Lev. 19:10; 23:22
- increase of fields every 7th year to be for the poor Ex. 23:11
- they are not to be oppressed Dt.24:12-15
